Getting a primate as a pet:
Breeders are not going anywhere, and that fact will never be altered by anyone! Since the beginning of recorded history, people have shared their homes with animals, including some unusual species. Since there are breeders and it is highly unlikely that anyone will be able to stop them, why not place more of an emphasis on the behaviors of breeders and the individuals who purchase the animals they produce? Do they truly care about the primates that they are breeding? Do they place them in homes that are suitable for them? Do they inform people about the primates that they are placing with them before selling them? Do they care more about making a name for themselves than they do about the animal’s well-being, or do they prioritize the animal’s welfare equally? Do the people buying the animal know how to properly care for that species? If not, do they have the financial means to pay for the necessary veterinary care and housing? If so, why are they buying this type of animal?
Since people will always buy primates, regardless of how much others try to dissuade them from doing so, shouldn’t I focus my efforts on educating current owners and people who might buy primates in the future? This is a goal that I have set for myself, and it is to assist primate owners and educate potential primate owners about the responsibilities of primate ownership. I do my best to respond to people’s inquiries regarding any and all aspects of primate ownership, and if I am unable to do so, I try to point them in the direction of someone who is either more experienced or more knowledgeable in the subject matter.
